Looks like I have quite a few pr4 myspace profiles. I am kind of new to this, so can someone help me out and explain the significance of page rank as it relates to linking/SEO etc.?

Instead of being a link to your site it redirects through msplinks.com or something like that so you wont get a backlink from it.

Phoenix.edu's ("prestigious" online university) highest Pr backlink is some guy's myspace page.

May not get PR from it but if the page gets a lot of views you may still be able to get some traffic from it.
Your orig. question was re PR. Pr is important in seo and ranking but not as much as it used to be. Bak links are a great way for search engines to find your site and index it into the search results based a lot on the key words in your link and meta tags and of course content on your site.
do a search here there are post and some ebooks on seo and pr on this forum that would help you out.
