    Hey guys,

Lets say you have a site that ranks first for a given keyword in google.

After some research we find out that there are no blacklinks to the site using that specific keyword as anchor text.

    The site is a PR4.

Would having some good quality anchored backlinks (for that keyword) be enough to take over the top spot for said keyword?

In my experience..yes. I have an authority site, pr 5, after having it for 4 yrs I have started to slip in the SERPs, did some homework and was getting passed up by shit that had more backlinks. I think that Google has shifted their alg. to giving even more credit to backlinks than ever before. So I went out and got a Few new backlinks and I am climbing back up the ranks quickly. That being said, your competition may do the same if you pass him up! So get good unique content to back the links up....Just my opinion.

Don't pay any attention to PR when it comes to SERPs. The results are not arranged by PR. It is much more complex. Like robertstr mentioned start developing your backlinks.

There is alot of evidence from successful internet marketers that make me believe this statement is inaccurate.
Could you give me some information/evidence that would support your claim?

So I'm not successful enough for you? :D

OK, my PR0 blog ranks higher than a lot of PR5 and above blogs for a keyword with 260,000,000 competition. In fact I've been constantly in top 50 for the last year or so, overtaking large companies with hundreds of employees and dedicated seo teams.

Now lets do an experiment. I just searched for a random phrase "I love watermelons"

Here are the results and their PR

    1:pR2
    2:pR0
    3:pR1
    4:pR0
    5:pR0
    6:pR0
    7:pR0
    8:pR0
    9:pR5

Why is PR5 9th being overtaken by all those PR0?

Then on around 350th spot there is even PR6. Why is that one so far down?

Finally, if you still don't believe me... Give me a keyword that you are targeting and I will overtake you with a brand new domain before the next PR update. Obviously, within reason...

I think that PR nowadays works like this...ALL THINGS BEING EQUAL, same qualitly scores, amounts of backlinks etc. The higher PR will generally pull ahead. In advance I Can not prove that one! Plus I have noticed something weird, wondering if anybody has seen this. Are you guys finding it easier to make some crapy ezine article or squidoo lens rank easier than building out your authority site, by adding new pages? Lately I can get pr 3 on an ezine article in a month or so. Same trick on my authority site ...3 months if at all.
Sorry a little of target here but it does go to the No value of pr.

Yeah, Ive been doing a lot of research on this. PR is only a small factor in SERPS. From my little experience I would say titles are probably the most important. I guess there a lot of stuff taken into account and its best to try and work on everything.
