I see many people using wordpress blogs and other sites that give you your own subdomain for backlinks...

Quick question - how is this effective? What I mean is...

Your brand new blah.wordpress.com subdomain has 0 PR.

Your same article posted at quizilla.com has a PR of 7...

What's the point in having a single PR 0 backlink when you can get one at quizilla.com with a PR value of 7?

Also, most social bookmarking sites nowadays use cloaking (their own little redirect so you don't actually get a direct backlink), and have a nofollow tag... What's the point of using things such as auto social poster or onlywire?

(I'm seriously asking, this is not to knock anything)

Thanks,
dN

Because even if its nofollow it still gets some respect from the search engines and its still 1 backlink more. Also you dont get a pr7 backlink from quizilla unless it is on the homepage because it is a regular page just like a subdomain

Ahh good call, I didn't know that non-main pages were not considered the same PR value as the domain.

Thanks

That being said, this brings up a new question...

If I have an article from quizilla that links to mywebsite.c0m/somepage/blah.html does that individual page gain pagerank, or does the domain (or subdomain, whatever it is) gain page rank?

Thanks

You have answered your own question really...

does that individual page gain pagerank

That's why it's called page rank....

But in saying that, it is only one of the factors that determines a page's ranking. Google uses other factors to rank pages too...

Frankly, page rank is not what it was, and I wouldn't, per-se, pay too much attention to it...

ah c'mon lemme tell ya something
pagerank is count mostly by backlinks but the more relevant the better
so if the page is not on homepage and got not that good Pagerank but yes it is worth
why? if the main page have pagerank the whole site will be crawled better than any sites that dun have PR
