Its totally random, sometimes it happens in 2 months and sometimes they do in 3 months.

minor updates runs very frequently... but major its 3-4 times per year

There is no such sure information about this that google changes this strategy in a fixed period of time but you will be with it for a period of time then you will understand everything.
