Fairly recently I have started doing PPC with Bing + CB. I'm a noob, though the results have been great so far, despite minimal testing/optimization. Now I want to scale up and throw more money into the game. What's baffling is that there's so many different variables to consider: kws, their match types, ads, demographics, schedule etc. And then all this multiplied by the number of campaigns.

So how do you go about testing your PPC campaigns? Do you try to test one variable at a time, say, which ad works best, and then, once you have the winner move onto something else? Or do you test several variables at once, running many ad groups with different settings at the same time?

Here is what I would do. Im also starting in PPC.

Choose 1 offer. Make 2 ads with different titles. Spend at least the value of the offer spread across both ads. One will get a better CTR. Hopefully we get a sale. I would then use that title and suspend the other ad. Now change the description/call to action and have 2 ads with the same title. Spend up to the offer commission again. If you haven't got a sale then STOP. The problem could be the offer. If you got some sales then you continue to optimise with other things. Maybe still on the ad, maybe the landing page, maybe time of day, day of week, etc.

    You want to :

    1. Increase CTR on your ad.
    2. Increase CR for offer.

They should be your two focus points for any new campaign.
