I am thinking about venturing off into starting a PPC network for a targeted niche.
I have two different options to take as far as setup/scripts.
The first one is a adbrite type site that allows publishers to advertise their site and have advertisers buy ads on the particular site. Pros are that it has just about every type of ad besides cpa and script costs are fairly cheap.
The second one is a adwords/adsense type site that targets area/language/keywords. Pros are that it has fraud detection for bots and publisher abuse. Lets me add in my own ads for anytime targeted ads are not running. I can upgrade scripts to include cpm/cpa/popup or add my own html codes such as adsense or affillate banners to include in adrotation. Plus this has a premium puplisher option that can be an incentive to good publishers. Cons: kind of expensive. Pretty much takes it to my budget. I have to pay additional for all the cpm popups and stuff. which i cannot afford yet until I start making some money off of the site if any.
So if i go with option 1 I can afford advertising for my advertising network and I can see it getting up faster and going but I am concerned that with the quality that i may not attract advertisor cause i would have publishers waiting till i actually gained them some ads and they might have blank adspace while this is getting started up.
With option 2 I could put in a bunch of affiliate ads that i could gather up and pay out of my own pocket to retain publishers while i get advertisers.
I figured also i could sell the non targeted traffic as well for a cheap price.
I also plan to allow affiliate links to advertisers unlike adsense
