Hot take: your ad creative matters more than targeting now.

One good AI-generated ad = beats 10 “optimized” campaigns.

Are you focusing more on creatives or still stuck tweaking audiences?

In my opinion, their algorithms have become so sophisticated that your targeting capabilities have almost entirely shifted to the realm of job creation, meaning we just need to wait for the results.

Creative definitely plays a bigger role now, but the best results usually come from strong creatives paired with solid targeting and data—it's not one or the other.

both matter, but calling creative the clear winner in 2026 feels a bit premature. yeah a good ai-generated ad can outperform a lazy campaign, but ive watched plenty of beautiful creatives get wasted on cold audiences that were way too broad, spent three years running client accounts and the targeting floor still has to be there or your "one good ad" just burns budget fast. creative breaks the ceiling, targeting sets the floor, you kinda need both working together.

From my experience, I focus more on creatives now. A single good AI-made ad usually performs way better than messing with audiences. Targeting helps, but creative wins most of the time.

With Meta and Google’s AI-driven broad targeting in 2026, the algorithm now uses your creative as the primary targeting signal, meaning a high-hook AI video will automatically find its own audience more efficiently than any manual interest-stacking could. To scale, you should focus on "Creative Testing" via Dynamic Creative Optimization (DCO) rather than audience tweaking, as the creative's ability to retain viewer attention is now the strongest proxy for relevance and lower CPMs.

Honestly man, I feel creatives are way more important now, like u can make one good ad and it perform better than lots of audience tests, AI helps a lot here, so I focus more on making catchy stuff than just changing targeting all the time.

Interesting take, and I think there’s definitely truth to it. Targeting still matters, but it feels like platforms have gotten so good at optimization that creative is what really differentiates results now. The same audience can respond completely differently depending on the hook, visuals, and messaging. I’ve been putting more effort into testing multiple creatives rather than endlessly refining audiences, and the performance difference has been noticeable. Curious to see how others are balancing this.

Honestly i feel creatives are more important now, a really good ad can get way better results than just changing audience, if your creative is weak even perfect targeting wont help much, AI can make strong creatives fast so i mostly focus there now.
