Powerful link to a Page that is not keyword rich?

Lets say an article got a powerful link(editorials etc) but the article is just informational and has little to no chance of getting ranked in the search engine.

Are the links somehow useful and can boost the overall authority of the domain instead?

Any powerful link will help with the general authority of the website. Many people build link trap articles, that have no intention of ranking, but are known to bring in links, so that they boost their general website authority.

You mean link from bad content ? That is not a good strategy. Even when you hire some seo guy, you make sure that he user good quality articles to give links.

If the link is from an authority site in your niche, then it'll definitely help you rank better.
