I've been in the SEO game for quite long now, testing and practicing diverse methods over the years, trying to bring traffic and money to the pocket. Today, i'll leave a little 'point-of-view' of why many websites does not rank for keywords and do not drive any traffic. Things stay pretty simple.
1. You're not patient
Even if an expired domain or a fresh one, posting a lot of content would not help you over the time. When mass posting, a lot of websites get a huge push then they drop, because the algo's starts picking up the content and giving it a score. In GSC, if this happens, you'll see something likes this on the graph:

For content, the website was about 6-8 months old when i've changed the entire layout and i've start running on a remote database. So, over night, i was having over 5M articles on the website. The push is quite clear, but the drop aswell. G Algo is starting to pick the content up and ranking it well.
2. The content is not right.
This is quite an interesting case. So a lot of people just think like this: Human Content + minimum of X words = quality. And somehow it may seem right, but it's not. So, basically for your article to start driving traffic, in a world full of bloated content, you must be precise and on point. And what i mean by this: RESPOND TO THE SEARCH INTENT.
A little example: If i search for "What is finance" -> a guide may rank higher in serps, but have a huge bounce rate. People nowadays search for clear, short answers, straight to the point. That's why, in the recent year AI responses, reddit and quorra got huge pushes from google. The math is simple: Short Answer, Straight to the points -> higher conversion, lower bounce rate -> quality traffic.
So, try focusing on short, quality content. When it comes to images, you can use AI to ilustrate your ideas, but follow the same principle.
My main website is focused on this ideea. Short answers, fast pages, straight to the point with blending ads. Results? You have the second website in the post (first point) and this is the main website (all-time):

3. You're not getting advantage of certain page types and content.
That's pretty straightforward. I'll reffer here to the AMP Pages. They tend to rank higher on mobile devices. On my main website, using AMP Pages boosted the overall website and revenue.

So, the overall point of view is this: Focus on short answer content, fast pages, ads that are blending with the content. Try to be human when writting. If your articles sound AI, you won't get far.
My websites are a simple blend of pure PHP, AI Optimisation (server side) and a lot of scraping from all over the internet. I've not even changed a single word in all of my articles.
On a final note, be patient. I've running my website for over 2 years now i think. Once with a layout change, URL structure change, it got a massive drop, and it starts going back up. So whatever you'll do, be patient.
That's some key steps for people wanting to drive real traffic. Backlinks, SEO Audits, services, are just some highly paid bullshit nowadays.
I hope i've been very clear with my point of view and it will be very helpfull for all of you. If you have questions, i'll try responding to them.
