Potential Method for Free Content...

Wanted to run this by you guys to get your input and see if this is a viable strategy.

I recently purchased an expired domain and was reviewing the original site on wayback machine. There was a lot of content that was related to the site I was building. I checked copyscape, and none of it seems to be indexed in google any longer.

I then checked out a few other expired domains related to my niche that I do not own, and it was a similar experience. The old sites had good usable content that no longer seemed to be indexed.

Would there be any penalty from google by lifting the content off of these other expired domains and placing it on my site? At a few bucks for the domain, it would be worth it to buy just to use the content if I had too.

If there isnt a penalty, I dont see why this couldnt be a viable way to get good content. Even if it had to be spun, it would still be cost effective.

No problem you can use it. But the problem is content on expired domains usually over optimized.

Well, at least that answers my question. Looks like it was an old method even back in 2012.

That's just a rediculous moment with no facts whatsoever... makes me wonder how you got all those 94 thanks... hope not for posts like this one.

The content isn't in copyscape because the domain is expired and not in Google's current index. However, Google likely has the historical content in its database so chances are they know it is duplicated.

He made a valid point actually.

Content style is always changing as Google updates its algorithm, so the older the content is, the less likely it will be effective today

what facts you want? SEO was not same in 2010 as it today. If you did overoptimization three or four years back then you'll be ranked better. So most of the content on expired domains is overoptimized. So if you want to use content from wayback machine you should check for overoptimization. I created fake accounts and thanked myself.

There is a service that will do that for you for about $15 - search for waybackdownloader.

I dont understand what is ridiculous about this advice. Can you elaborate why you think so?

You could always go a step further and rewrite/spin it to make it 'unique'.
