Admittedly the title is a bit exaggerated to get your attention, but as you can probably tell I'm a bit new to all this (reading the forums for around 2 weeks) and would appreciate any help to tell if this niche could be profitable.

From what I've read/watched, a good keyword is something that...
1- Has between 5,000-100,000 monthly searches
2- Has less than, or around, 2,000,000 results when searched in Google
3- Has some competition (but not a lot) on the first page
and
4- Can be monetized in some fashion

Now I believe I've found something that fits into this criteria, however I have a couple of worries. There are a few keywords that apply to this niche all giving similar results in the mentioned criteria, but am I suppose to add them all together (add all their monthly searches/Google results) to get a truer number and idea? Also, the results which appear on google are just the stores selling the product (one of which I will affiliate to) but the sites selling all have a moz rank around 4.5~ which I've heard is quite high and tough to beat, should I worry about this?

Sorry, I won't be revealing my keyword(s) just in case I'm on to something.

Providing this is a go, is this a solid plan of action to reach slot 1 or 2 on google or is this method dead/not possible?

1- Get keyword relalted domain, and hosting
2- Install word press (of which I have little exeperience) and a good theme
3- Learn more about SEO and how to apply it to articles
4- Write 10+ quality articles on the niche
5- Upload articles and non-copywrite pictures
6- Get and learn to "hide" (clean looking, not a link with 3 lines worth of extensions) affiliate link
7- Start social sites related to the site and build a following
8- Learn more about back links and page rank
9- Start a PPC ad campaign

Sorry if it appears that I'm wanting to be spoon fed, this to me just seems like a solid plan from what I've read (providing I can pull it off), but don't want to waste loads of time and a bit of money if I've missed something really obvious.

I appreciate and tips/help. Apology on the length. Thanks!

This isn't asking to be spoonfed at all. And don't apologize for length. heh.

There are many more keywords than meets the eye initially that can bring traffic to a site. Not all keywords have to be niche related for a site to rank. If you see the competition for the specific keyword you're thinking of is too strong, look for variations and long tails to improve your traffic which will help in your optimization of the keyword you'd like to primarily target. A truth that seems to be forgotten or cast aside in SEO is the point of it is not only to rank high, but to bring in targeted and converting traffic.

You may not rank above the other sites immediately, but what do you have to lose? Pursue your idea and follow your blueprint. Make sure to keep adding new content. Wordpress isn't necessary.

Thanks.

I'm just looking into getting a domain now. Also, do affiliate links take the reader to the appropriate version of the site in terms of currency.

Hope that made sense, I had a clearer version typed up, but for the life of me couldn't get the forum to allow me to post it.
