With mySQL, PHP, JS, and Wordpress, and a sound technical knowledge you can create a very professional site. And there is no harm in allowing clients some added functionality (those plugins for example) to try... only if you have taken care that your code wouldn't become corrupt. I as a programmer can decide to allow my good clients any thing, isn't it?

That 'framework' needs Wordpress as its base in our case at least! We tried Wordpress and succeeded in creating a professional, affordable, user-friendly, and scalable site. We and our clients are happy about it.

So this kind of went on to a tangent. I know I am a day late (more than a couple) and a buck short, but building a hotel website on wordpress is not necessarily bad. When you hand over the website to the hotel, most of them will like the ease of use of the backend. I have built these websites from scratch, and depending on the size and scope of work needed I would charge a hotel between 10k to 40k. That price seems large but it is their money maker, so if you build it, charge for it. Anyway, i like to build on wordpress mainly because I am one and done, so whomever the hotel hires after me will be able to hand over backend access to do what they need to do and not have to do manual coding or anything of that nature in order to make the site work or update it. Those are my 2 cents, hope it helps, even though it is late.

It is true that Wordpress is scalable (to a certain level) and that it can fit the need of many clients. However, what I think the other ones on this thread are trying to explain to OP is that it is not a fit for all businesses in particular for hotels that are planning to integrate their online reservation system to their "million dollar" booking system and things like that. If that is their plan and you give them a Wordpress site, when the time come for the upgrade, they will hate you.

We all heard horror stories before of people who paid big $ for e-commerce site, only to get it deliver in wordpress instead of more robust e-commerce platform like Magento.

OP need to make sure he knows the client objective and be open to suggestion other than wordpress.

Just so you guys know, the reservations systems are normally separate from the website as they have to be hosted on an ssl and normally in a GDS. So essentially, you have two websites, one for bookings which is directly linked to the website, and the regular website. The reason for this is that hotels are extremely liable for personal information and need it to be secured. So whenever putting in a reservation system, it is normally done via: gds.bookingengine.com or booking.hotelname.com, that way it is viewed as a reservation system or subdomain. Hope I explained this well enough.
