I started posting on FB and I joined a bunch of FB groups and started sharing them there

Is that a good way to get engagement?

Yes, being present in various groups and communities is one way to get engagement. This can increase profile visits.
 
yeah, but how are you posting on them? just sharing posts from your profile or pages? its best to look around, if you see a bunch of non-sense posts being approved them spam away but if there good posts, you gotta contribute something before you spam the shit out of them or admins might block you right away

If they are dead or full of useless bots, like many groups on FB, it's a waste of time
 
The best fb groups that worked for me were the ones for finding appartments lol

That's a manual method; however, the content you post needs to avoid duplication, otherwise Facebook will take notice and may even lock your account for unusual activity.
Of course, you also need to put in the effort to post interesting content in the group, along with videos to attract viewers to follow your page.

FB groups already have active people → way better reach than posting only on your page
You’re putting your content in front of people who care about the topic
Early likes/comments from groups can help posts perform better overall
 
Presented in number of groups it definitely gives some traffic to the profile
 
Your method isn't wrong, and even more importantly, you can publish high-quality posts, attract followers to interact with you, thereby increasing the credibility of your profile and maintaining a consistent posting frequency.

so I have a spare account that I use to join different groups of interest and I kinda share from the profile to the groups

sharing straight from profile to a bunch of groups is the fastest way to get throttled or burned - FB tracks link reuse + posting pattern hard. Better flow is native post per group, slightly different hook, no links at first, let comments cook then drop link if allowed. Warm the account by commenting for a few days, then post in 2-3 groups max per day, rotate groups + content. Groups work but only if you blend in like a real member, not a distribution bot.
 
That's a good approach, but it's only effective when done correctly.
If done incorrectly, it's easy to get no interaction or even be flagged as spam.

It can work, but joining a ton of groups and blasting posts usually gets you flagged or stuck in pending. Better pick a few relevant groups, follow the rules, comment/help first, then share posts occasionally w different wording.

Yes! It's actually a very good strategy. I'd recommend joining groups only in your niche (unrelated ones might report your post) and public ones (to avoid waiting for approval every time you post).
