What are the possible bad effects of posting both shorts and long form content on same channel ? Does youtube limit the reach of such channels ?

nothing as far as i can tell. The good sucessful channels i follow, there are a few of them, that have this strategy. It isn't a make or break. Its just whatever suits your content process, and can you adapt to both? If you can, great shorts a cool way to get easy subs and traffic with CTA's like subscribe now.
 
just make sure they are high quality contents that will capture the attention of readers pretty quickly so that yotube can recommend your videos to other people

YouTube doesnt limit channels for mixing Shorts and long form. Just content strategies clear for each format to avoid confusing your audience.

No problem. You can cut a short part of a long video and convert it into a short video. This is also the way many people often do to increase views for long videos because short videos are still more likely to trend.
 
Mixing Shorts and long videos isn t a problem for YouTube, but I d focus on keeping your audience in mind make sure each type of content has its own vibe so people know what to expect.
 
There are no strict rules for uploading short or long videos. As long as your video quality is good, you’re good! Just understand which content works best as a short and which deserves a longer format — that’s all that matters.

I know that some content is better suited as shorts while others as long format. But I want to know whether posting same type on one channel has some effect or not ?

every channel has a view limit, it maybe 1000, 10k, 100k or whatever, when you post shorts and long form, the problem is youtube distributes these views across your videos and mostly it goes to the shorts videos rather than the long form ones. What you can do is upload shorts to get subscribers and viewers and then switch to long form content, ofcourse this switch will have a temporary fluctuation in your channel, it will take a while for youtube to adapt the views to the new form content.
 
From what I've seen and experienced, YouTube doesn't limit reach for mixing Shorts and long-form. The algorithm treats them separately.

The main "bad effect" is it can confuse your audience if the content styles are too different. Someone subbing for quick Shorts might not watch your 20-minute vlogs, which can hurt your overall channel watch time.

A good strategy is to use Shorts as a trailer or teaser for your long-form videos. For example, post the most exciting 30 seconds from your travel vlog as a Short and pin a comment with the full video link. This way, they work together.

So, no, YouTube won't limit you. Just be strategic about how the two formats support each other. Many successful channels use this combo effectively.

YouTube does have a view limit per channel. It seems to be tier based and varies by niche.

Posting both long videos and Shorts on the same channel is beneficial, as long as the long videos are around 3 minutes maximum. Very long videos, like 10 minutes, carry the risk that the same subscribers who watch your Shorts might find a 10 minute video somewhat boring if the content isn't 100% aligned with what they want to watch, or if you present it in a monotonous way.

I ran an experiment on one of my old channels. I'm a bit extreme and go by an all or nothing approach. Once, I set all the channel's Shorts to unlisted. The next day, I saw the impact on monetization and also noticed some long form videos losing reach. Then I made all the Shorts public again (there were over 100 of them) and the channel exploded again and monetization increased.

This is because monetization from Shorts, while small per video, adds up when you have hundreds of Shorts that are continuously watched (and they don't die). It amounts to a decent sum of money.

Algorithm does not want shorts and long form content on same channel ? Do you have personal experience to support this ?
 
Two different types of audience. It won't hurt your channel, but I would focus in one of them. Most long form video creators tried to create short videos and they failed, the other way around also applies here, there are few exceptions though

That is a very good point. I guess it takes completely opposite type of personality to succeed in each for of content. There could be some exceptions regarding this though .
 
YouTube does not officially limit the reach of channels that post both Shorts and long‑form videos but Shorts attract viewers who prefer quick, snackable content. These viewers may not stick around for longer videos, leading to lower watch time and retention on your long‑form uploads
