My site is new and its not impacted much. I actually did 301 recently so it was difficult to understand the changes. But it was already not getting any meaningful traffic

The most unpleasant thing is that new content doesn't index well, and doesn't show up in top 100 even for very long tail keywords. It's as if they have stopped accepting new content into the search before the update has finished.

same here, no index for the latest articles. automotive news website.

Its based on an algorithm so it does have a pattern, we just don't see it yet.

Unless google decided to throw random() into their algorithm which I think they are a lot smarter than that (although I am sure they use random to test pages in the serps before settling down the positions based on other factors).

You can test if its random pretty easy, just go create 100 websites in any niche and by just chance you will likely hold at least a few of the top 10 spots with total garbage on your page.
 
If we talk about algorithm then this is what I've understood so far. I'm not sure if I'm correct or not but I feel this is the way it's working now.

Wave = Fluctuations or Algo updates

These are the waves I think we have gone through so far:

Wave 1 - Google released the rollout and algo started ranking websites based on their overall authority (It could be a reason people saw YouTube and Pinterest on top)
Wave 2 - Google now started settling websites based on Authority+Content (People saw other thin pages with PBN and other backlinks coming on ranks. Maybe Algo took them as authority)
Wave 3 - Google started settling up websites with Authority + Content + Backlinks (Genuine websites started moving up and getting their ranks)
Wave 4 - Google rolled out Authority + Content + Backlinks + Page Factors ( Some genuine websites started regaining their traffic and ranks )

I think these waves will also hit us soon

Wave 5 - Google to roll out algo based on Authority + Content + Backlinks + Page Factors + Webpage Speed
Wave 6 - Refining the results again based on Authority + Content + STRONG backlinks.
Wave 7 - Bunch of thin pages and other low-quality sites will keep on loosing their ranks and other websites with AUTHORITY will get goo places.

After these 7 waves are done, Google will roll out a mass correction which will actually check how the ALGO has done and if there needs a fix. If fix required then the correction rollout will correct the websites place( Put it higher in ranking or lower in ranking)

PS: 1 Wave takes roughly 2 days(My estimate). Been a week now and we are in Wave 4 most likely.

PPS: Whitehat websites and other authority websites should regain their ranks or even better ranking after this Algo.

Looking at semrush data, seems serps are quite stable now..

Yes. Other Waves will not hit us very hard however I'm expecting to see small waves that will keep on fixing things and rankings to improve in coming days for genuine websites.

Another thing I've noticed is that a lot of websites(Stable after Core Update) give ref outbound links to Wikipedia and other EDU sites which are quite HIGH in authority.

The good news is this opens up a lot more articles to be written for the queries which I lost. The bad news is this takes time to write and post and it sucks.

I see the same, ranking for main keywords unchanged, but lost impressions mostly for long-tail queries and related keywords. So, overall traffic is down.

Same things on my side ! I'm sure it'll be back up in few days, I already seen some move up today!
 
Some of my starter blogs got hit from the latest update;

Probably got 50% cut of traffic;

But I'll wait for 1 more week

Thanks man. Well now I'm even more confused haha. I did that and the traffic is indeed coming from Google. But, the vast majority is not showing me the keyword, it is listed as (not provied).
 
Guys, SEO is simply dead once again.

Time to quit... and come back, once again.

Don't worry about that, for whatever reason Google Analytics doesn't like providing us with the keywords people use - sometimes I've seen some absolute random trash show up as a keyword in Analytics and couldn't find it in my Search Console search queries.
