Post Update Issue - Google Ranking Drops

Hi,

One of my site facing a wired issue with post update, whenever I add some new content to an existing post and update it, the post jump off from first page to 4th page, after 3/4 days the post comes back to first page but not on exact same spot, which is understandable.

But I am wondering why is this happening to my blog? What are the possible reasons for this. Not only this issue wipe out tons of traffic of my blog for few days also making me afraid of updating existing post.

Note: I post almost every day, new post does not cause any issue. Also I don't change post URL. It's an aged domain in fairly competitive HOME niche and its about 9 months old in my possession.

How much do you change the post ?

Did you check if your competitors wer doing it too, if not you should not do it

I added an additional part to the content, it's about 500 words.

My post needed that piece of information that's why I added that. I don't know about competitors update their post or not. Also why would I stop updating my content if it adds value to the user?
