Post Penguin - Linkwheel or Link Pyramid?

use both...its not a question of one or another, but both are useful...

Well I asked because I've been reading that linkwheels leave a huge footprint. But that was before Penguin and you never know with G00gle.

Matt Cutts hinted at SMX that Google is looking for both. I personally think use pyramid but be smart abut it.

Any SEO leaves a footprint. It's rather simple to analyze the linking structure of any website, whether you're doing white or blackhat. Our job is to create a link strategy that looks somewhat natural (like whitehatters).

As lanbo and manny mentioned, it would be a good idea to use a combination of both. As for my sites that use either strategy, there hasn't been a dramatic shift in SERPS post penguin. As long as your links are diversified, your sites should be fine.

Either one or both. It's just that how you use and there are a few legit way that can eliminate possible footprints upto a certain extent.

I did link wheels and press releases for 2 of my clients websites. One site is ranking in top 10 for couple of keywords, and for other keywords its slowly increasing.

The second site was ranking in 200-400 positions for 4-5 keywords, it now below 100, so we can say link wheel is working.

Use both and diversify with other links on the side straight to the money site. If you just use the pyramid and wheel it will look sketch, change up the link structure with every pass to avoid footprints.

you must use link pyramid and then use again link wheel for your pyramid..
this works best for after penguin sites

use neither, just quality content that gets shared socially
