Post-Panda Reality Check

If anyone has ranked #1 in google (and stayed there) for a 20k+ s/m keyword in the last 30 days with a relatively new site, could you please confirm?
I've been running some tests, from what I'm seeing, it seems like #1s are now being "protected" somehow from new sites, regardless of how comparatively weaker they are, please confirm if I'm wrong. Thank you.

I have been there for 3 of my webpages for 67 days now... with a pretty good competition

Not being able to challenge a #1 spot within a month (how long has panda been out?) for a competitive KW isn't news in my opinion. It takes more work/time than that.
