I am after a keyword that's contains a city, for example gardening services los angeles

the top 10 results are google places. I want to be above google places. the #1 guy in the organic listings (right below google places) has homepage links from PR7 sites. if this guy couldn't beat google places, then it must be hard.

what do you guys think? is it possible to be above google places in this situation? if yes, how?

if THERE IS someone above the 7 pack so it means it's possible right??
There's many more factors beside pr links, one big factor is time(!) natural links and citations.. Working hard is not always enough, you have to be patient as well. btw, i don't think that it's worth the effort to reach above the 7 pack if you're already in the 1st page..

If nobody is above the seven pack its still possible i have seen people rank above there plenty.

Yes it is possible. With the perfect combination of SEO and local SEO to your google places page. You have to have the same website linked and the website listed in all of the directories in the same format (www.yourdomain.com). This is just a small part of how to rank it, but yes.

This is definitely possible but, is it worth the effort? As others have said, being in the first page should already be good enough.

What if you don't have a "google places" page? I'm sure it's possible, but trying to do this for a number of lead gen sites atm, but don't have physical addresses.

Google Places is the best place..easy for user to get phone number..better than website link above places

I tend to do well getting ranked in google places, all though backlinks are important, the citations are more important. If you have a legit address make sure you have all your citations built. There free service that all the directories get their data from. It is like yext but free,, express update? I forget, they call me all the time to update listings. Do a yext scan to see how you are doing with you citations. ( but don't sign up with those scumbags)

If you don't have a physical address , spam the heck out of google maps with the good ol map maker trick, make a few listings and when the customer searches that keyword, google will most likely show them the closet location which will be one of your spam listings.

Did I help? I tried... Trying to get my first 'thanked' on this account lol
