Possible Google Update Over the Weekend?

just to give everyone an idea of how badly this has affected the rankings:

yeah, i have felt some of the impact of the minor changes recently. But this time it was a big decrease! I did no index some tag pages the other day thinking it would prevent duplicate. I wouldnt of thought it would of had a negative impact though :(

You made changes to your website then post about a potential algorithm update? Noindexing those pages is much more likely to be the cause of your drop than an algorithm update.

Anytime you drastically change something to do with the content of your site or the pages that get indexed, Google will re-evaluate your entire site. Yes, they lie about pretty much everything, but when they say Google is “pretty good about figuring that stuff out” they aren’t lying.

It’s best to leave your stuff alone if it’s ranking. Focus on getting links to preserve your ranks into the future, and just setup the proper noindexing/ etc for future sites only.

Yeah to be honest I made these changes by accident, therefore didn't realise they where "no idexed" till I had a look through my search console. That's why my initial thought was a potential algo update.

Yeah you are correct! I should of left well alone! :(:(:(

There are constant updates since the end of March.

FIXED!!

The issue was with the piece of shit Yoast XML sitemap issue. When I have disabled the yoast xml sitemap option, I then created a new sitemap with https://wordpress.org/plugins/google-sitemap-generator/

Then submitted the XML sitemap and requested index

Then fetched and rendered the sitemap on mobile and desktop in Google search console.

Hey presto! Rankings came back instantly!!

How did you request for the sitemap to be indexed after submitting it?
