Gong to try and instigate some chatter from the experts and creative marketers here. Let's use a scenario:

- new membersip site
- starting at zero
- have a generic e-book related to a popular topic and initial posts ready

For sake of an example, let's use broad topic such as career advice or job search since these are generic enough yet targetable.

How do you drive traffic to build the list? (aside from the obvious give-away)

Looking for the most creative, best of the best, responses on how you would approach this scenario using this niche as the base for your answer.

I'm sure we'll all learn something from the responses.

Let me be the first to reply. I have been working on something like this so here is what I would do. If we take job search for example, post an ad in craigslist advertising numerous available positions and then email all respondents saying that you are processing their applications and having a look at their resumes and to please signup to your mailing list for prospective job seekers in the meanwhile for important news and announcements...

Thanks darkblack. That's an interesting approach. Wouldn't have thought to use CL for this example. Exactly the type of creative responses I was hoping this thread would generate. Waiting on more folks to chime in. Cheers!

Ive always wanted to test out buying expired domain traffic (niche target of course) and sending them to a nice landing page.

Never tried it. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Hmmm....buying up expired domains in a niche may get you a handful of visitors and possibly even sign-ups, but it could cost you just as much. Interesting idea though. Anyone else - what would be your creative approach to the scenario posed in OP?

Find sites that sell products that are not in direct competition to you, and work a deal where on the thank you page after a purchase they give an offer on your site, that way the people are already qualified buyers. You just give a commission to anyone who sends you traffic for signups. Works great!

now focus on SEO and SMO this will get you more users mainly FB rocks with quiz

The thank you page ads sounds like a good approach. Thanks for sharing!

Interested to learn more about best practices or tips on how to structure quizzes on facebook - do you have your own formula for higher conversions?

Anyone else? Good tips so far.
