Hey BHW,

My girlfriend has a small YouTube channel where she normally gets around 3K views in the first few days every video. She posted a new video 1 - 2 days ago and it's performing significantly poorer than usual, only 500 views so far. Any clue what the problem might be, and more importantly, anything we can do about it?

Here's a few problems I think it could be:

- Last month, she posted an untimely video (due to some political events happening in our country - HK protests), and pissed off some people. For that video, she had more dislikes than likes at one point. She's now on 69%... so I guess it climbed back up.

- She forgot to put tags in her most recent video. She has since updated it yesterday.

- Her latest video sucks lol...

Would you guys suggest deleting and re-uploading the video?

Thanks!

Make the video unlisted
Add some related tags
Public the video

That might help you! :)

I would personally not watch a small YouTuber unless the video is absolutely unique and/or high quality(sound + video)

Thanks mate. She added some tags without unlisting the video. Should she just unlist and list it again now? Should she wait a bit first before listing it again? Cheers

Think the quality is quite good, especially compared to her competitors (basically random girls talking about fashion trends and tips - she's a fashion designer). Can't say for sure, I'm not target audience lolz

Lots you could do but re-uploading isn’t one of the good ideas especially since you yourself said the video sucks. All Youtubers started somewhere so just chalk it up to experience and building her video base.

i suggest to not fret over one video and just keep trying to churn out good content til she hits a winner and stick with that

Let her hustle then! YT takes time.

Woops, my bad. I'm not saying that the video sucked, just said others might think so and hence, the low rating.

But do you have any other ideas on what we can do to try and improve it? Mainly want to know whether it's a 'forgot to tag' issue or 'last video had too many dislikes so channel is affected negatively now' issue. Thanks.

I don't think the large number of dislikes hurt the channel or that particular video. As far as I know even a dislike is still video engagement so it's still beneficial for the YT algo. What I don't understand is why she got so many dislikes in the first place? That could be the answer as to why her audience wasn't that interested in her latest upload. I guess tags and keywords used in the description can help with people finding the video through search and later on in the suggested section, but probably has no impact to the initial view count from her subscribers.

So any idea why that video got many dislikes? Did she say something that upset the viewers? Was the content not that good in quality? You mention the video was posted "untimely" so that pissed the audience off? If that's the case it's pretty weird.. does she have such a strict upload schedule so the subscribers know exactly when a new video should be live?
