Hey, new member here but have had knowledge of BH stuff for quite some time. I'm starting up a blog with the goal of ads/affiliate stuff. I'm getting decent traffic (100-200 visits per day). I'm trying to use Reddit to drive traffic. It's about 50/50 if my posts do well or not.
I got the primary Reddit account suspended for 3 days for vote manipulation (using selenium/python to log in with 5 different, brand new accounts from the same IP, same user agent, etc. pretty n00b mistake). I haven't messed around much since.
I have now realized the power of even a single upvote on a new post and want to dig further into upvote bots. To do so clearly requires different IP addresses. I've cruised the forums today and see that 4G/LTE is popular, as well as some of the other services (911.re, storm proxy, etc.). In the US, 4G/LTE is let's say, $30/month minimum. Add a modem and a raspberry pi and you're at a decent initial investment with recurring costs. How can we avoid this cost?
All around me are xfinitywifi access points. I use xfinity for ISP. Kismet shows 7 different APs broadcasting xfinifywifi. I'm assuming these show an external IP of the main subscriber (IP shown on phone is 10.x)? I connected to the same one with my phone 3x and got the same external IP each time. I need to walk up the street and try another (can't connected to a specific BSSID with iPhone). These should appear as residential to Reddit as far as I know.
This got me thinking - how hard would it be to stick raspberry pis in hidden places next to either open APs or APs you know the password to (brewery down the road, dentist office a few blocks over, etc.).
So I'm going to try these things and see how it works. I'm interested in if any of you have done something similar, as well as overall management software/scripts.

- directional antenna to connect to xfinitywifi up and down my street
- hiding raspberry pi near open APs/APs with known passwords (businesses - restaurant, brewery, dentist and such)
- potentially using solar panels and small batteries for this (no need for big batteries that last 3 days. goal here is to be unobserved, not 24/7 operation). raspberry pi zero w consumes ~1-2W. doesn't take much to move packets around, probably quite a bit more to encrypt the packets even at low bandwidth
- paid proxy services
- 4G/LTE modems (any recommendations for US based PAYG / less than $20/month? I could use a 4G/LTE backup for home internet anyways
- already tried a reddit upvote service. seems to have to worked fine. minimal effort. not exactly cheap but you can buy a lot of upvotes for the same price as a paid proxy/LTE connection
