[Poll] Wikipedia links - Lets settle this once and for all.

Every now and again people post threads about Wikipedia links passing authority. To spite the no-follow tag, many members insist that Wikipedia links pass authority, simply because of Wikipedia's authority. Matt Cutts has made a video saying that they do not, logic will tell you that they do not, but still... people insist that they do.

So, lets setting this once and for all. Do Wikipedia links pass authority?

Links from wiki can be counter productive too . Because several webmasters just copy the entire page of wikipidea including the external links on their website . For google you are building links with duplicate article.

Everybody take a few minutes and go into your WMT accounts and look through all your links being reported. If there is not a single noFollow link in there, then maybe you have a point.... if there are even a handful of noFollow links in your reported backlinks, then quite clearly they are being counted and google is registering them, and they are contributing to your rankings, authority, backlink profile etc.... so instead of just answering the poll of what "you think" is happening, lets have som empirical evidence of google at work, if even just showing that they see them and report them via WMT. Cheers.

Good idea. If anyone has Wikipedia.org links and could do this, that would be awesome.

Nofollow links don't pass PR but they do pass authority and relevance.

After all it's a wikipedia link. Go and get them.

I have a PA 65 Wikipedia link. Why would that not pass authority ?

NF links just dont pass PR but you can still rank a site with them.

Not a very compelling argument.

Yes, they pass authority, but in my opinion there aren't very useful. Only a little bit

Yes they do pass authority and relevance.
You want proof ? When you rank a website you use no-follow links as well and they count towards your rankings. All of my campaigns are on the ratio 70/80 - 20/30 % ratio on ********/nofollow.
Why wouldn't wikipedia help with that ?!

I suspect they do, can't say I have definitive proof with any site, actually had mixed results with the few links I managed to put in wikipedia, but I still think it's a good idea, just my 2c

its completely withing Google guidelines to buy as many nofollow links as you wish, thus they dont help rankings at all.

Im am sure they dont pass anything, no PR, no trust, no relevance, no anchortext.

Thats the whole point of nofollow. Same reason why social doesnt matter for SEO. Beachause twitter & fb are nofollowing everything.

I would build wikipedia links time and again to drive traffic. Can't beat a little work to get lifetime of referral traffic.

They pass authority or not is not what I am concerned about.. They DO bring in some highly targetted traffic. That's why I love Wikipedia.

The poll would be interesting to see. I did not vote though because I am not sure about this.
