Poll: Should you list your prices?

I am curious what other SEO'ers think, if they should list their prices on their site, or just write "contact us' or "get a quote" etc. I am curious why some do this, and what people's opinions are!
I myself usually write the prices, I feel like me as a customer as well, I hate when I see "get a quote" and I usually just ignore them and go to the next site (dime a dozen). But the same argument could be made about putting your prices (to check competitors).

I personally wouldn't bother contacting someone who didn't have prices, but i would contact them if they had prices, and i wanted to discuss something.

its pointless to contact for price as far as its not a quotation based on the work to be done
like for SEO service you can't quote prices directly

but there is one more trick which is actually mixture of both
in which first you need to provide your contact details in order to get the price
now if your product is quite appealing the customer may share his email id
and then you can redirect to order page
so that if the customer doesn't buy your product after checking out the price tag you may contact him and offer him some discount

As a customer I hate to see "Request Quote" or similar, but with the nature of SEO I want our clients to be as satisfied as possible.

If we offered X keywords for $xxx month packages, sure we could deliver all the reports in the world but if the niche is high competition the website probably won't move and the customer won't give a shit. On the other hand, if we offer custom pricing then maybe a client with a bunch of easy keywords can cost the same as one who wants to rank for a couple huge ones; and both of them can get what matters most: results!

Anyway, we do custom pricing vs. static pricing for that reason and it works pretty well. For web packages we do list pricing because it is more straightforward. SEO services are always custom.

It depends on what you're selling. If you're just selling a package then you can post the price. I sell results to my clients and no two clients are alike. Each of them has a different need so I don't post prices.

If i sell fixed service/product then for sure i list my prices. If i provide something additional to that i clearly say it in notable place and link it to a contact form for a quote.

If i sell not fixed, but per customer needs stuff, then i list some sample prices for previous work along with details about work done and result, so the potential customers can get a feeling in what range are my prices. And i simply put a "get a quote" button linked to a contact form

It's depending on the services. For example: if i offer any specific linkbuilding packages, i will definitely list the price and if i offer complete seo or any research oriented service, i request them to contact me to get a quote.

I haven"t seen one decent seo company be advertised on here or even talked about.

It's seriously preying on the stupid on here.

If your services cost less than $1000 you better list your prices.

what about a per hour with typical hours for certain tasks? seems like a little bit of both ways

If I'm about to buy some service or product, I want to see at least approximate prices, ex. "starting from $..."
If I can't find the price, I close this site straight away.

This. If a site doesn't give me the information I need immediately (or with a little digging) I'll usually just find it somewhere else.

Like Stizerg said, we're working on listing example prices by building "possible" SEO packages that still require a quote.

We found listing approximate pricing for our print and design work on our home page in the form of package specials was effective, even if this was not the final price paid due to other services needed.

So I imagine having at least an approximation, where a typical campaign price starts at (you could categorize it into local, national, international), is beneficial.

It usually depends on what service you are promoting. If you say you do SEO and make your clients website found on page 1, then no need of placing the price list. If you described your services as you do article marketing, directory submits, etc., then its wise to enter your pricing list. Here, customers will compare the prices.
If you search for SEO most of the reputed companies don't show there pricing on there website. Its because 50% or more customer who searches and landed on there site will be new to SEO and probably don't have any knowledge about SEO. For them its wast to tell what you do in SEO, they simply want there sites ranked.
On other hand if you are selling a SEO service here, you should quote the pricing and what you do. Bcz people here know what SEO is.
