Is it natural looking and therefore OK to submit the same PDF document to a bunch of document sharing sites...

    Is this considered duplicate content?

    YES or NO

    (plus comments if you want)

(if a mod wants to change this to actual poll, that'd be cool)

I think it's normal, and any dupe content concerns can be taken care of by adding HTTP canonicals, which are intended for documents like that.

when you talk about canonicals, I assume you mean those of my own (money) site...i'm talking about creating a PDF with embedded links to my money site for example, then submitting it to doc share sites....with html properties (standard mass article submission) you would spin the content between each submission....but everyone seems to have their own opinion about weather this is necessary for PDF Docs or not. submissions

Why not add an actual poll to this thread? Yes, I would say dupe is fine in my opinion.

So if I am getting this right, it's not penalized as duplicate content as a normal article published in html might be, but if you change each PDF up to be unique then it will add even more value (which makes perfect sense)

    Yeah?

If you want to benefit from the link on your pdf you gonna need relevant content surround it. And if you want google to take a loot at your content, then it has to be unique :)

So, No Uniqueness ---- > No Indexing ---- > No Link .. Simple as that

maybe it's because I have 84 tabs open over 20 windows on three different browsers running at the same time, but none of the poll options were working.

    mod, help?

Unless there is a difference in the way Google and other search engines deal with the pdf documents on sharing sites vs a blog or other site, I do think that it will be harder to rank duplicate content across multiple domains or even a single domain. The reason I say this is that as a long time user of Joomla as well as using wordpress for file sharing, it has always been best practice to make the pdf no index. Joomla has this integrated into it by default (pdf sharing of articles) and its effect on SEO has always been brought up (proponents of WP over Joomla always like to bring this up). But even in WP when you share a document that has content previews, it is best to Nix one or the other from the SEs, and if you are sharing a file, which one would be obvious.

Because you are actually wishing the pdf to be SEO friendly, you would want all of them to get the best exposure possible. Because you are also looking to widely spread each and every individual document, lack of redundancy within your content cannot be totally expelled. Try to focus on the SEO of your intros and sharing site text. I am not sure if all sharing sites even have the pdfs crawled, but I would assume that they do.

While this might not seem to be a direct answer to your question, it does simply explore some of the factors involved, and I hope it helped.

GEEZ people get your head around this...

Duplicate content only occurs when the duplicate content is on the same site.

You can load the same PDF to 50 million websites and it will NOT get a penalty.

Its not duplicate coneent, its syndicated, or distributed content.

I concur with you to the nth degree. But if not a penalty should we discuss it as an issue? LOL
