Hey, I wanted to get some thoughts from other creators or folks who follow the YouTube space closely.

Lately there’s been a rise in channels that basically just leech off real creators using AI. Like they take long-form videos, pull the captions or transcript, summarize it, throw on a synthetic voice, maybe some stock visuals, and upload a new video that competes directly with the original. All automated. Sometimes these copies even rank higher.

So I’ve been working on a small project to fight back. It’s based on injecting junk into captions (based on f4mi's work, for those in the know. But I've solved here mobile display issue) in a way that YouTube still shows clean, readable subtitles to human viewers, but AI tools scraping the text end up with a bunch of noise. Think of it like a passive shield. It doesn’t mess with your audience, just the bots (Youtube normalize the original uploaded .srt file containing the good and the bad subs. No SEO penalties).

Some people might see this as fair defense, others might see it as tampering. Curious where this community stands. Is this kind of approach justified when dealing with big companies and lazy content farms, or is it going too far?

Would love to hear your honest take.

Well, the way it works, is that you feed real captions with some randomized offset (yet still within the timeline) junk content,
The user submit the whole .srt file to Youtube and the system normalizes it only considering the real captions.
When someone scrapes the captions from YT, they will get a mess, There shouldn't be any problem aith the algorithm as it's Youtube itself that normalized the captions and choose to only show the right content to the users.

The project is still in progress, but the core function is working, with many way to randomize timestamps, re-use real content in different places as fluff, or just use junk content as fluff.

If content farms waat to use your captions to summarize your work they will be faced with some useless mambo jumbo. They have 2 solutions:
- Spend time and transcribe the video themselves
- Pay for a speech to text solution

Both solutions mean they have to spend either more time or more money, which may be a turn off for the majority of them as they run on a tight budget. Even if they have budget, they will for sure preffer to spend their time on more low hanging fruits.
 
Yeah, I've seen a Morty and Rick that even I can animate better than lol, I think these pump and dump type videos will only be a short-lived trend. Its only youngsters that watch them, there is no action animation noteworthy in them to keep genuine watchers most of the time. People are still curious though, they can defaitnly spot the difference.
 
Those are some kind of video that still need some investement in time and money. I'm talking about slop channels that discuss trending subjects. The creators spends days or weeks researching, compiling informations, creating a script, filming or animating, editing and so on... for a slop channel to scrapes his newly uploaded video and create another video with the same subject competing directly with him in a couple hours.
You won't be surprized if I told you that sometime these slop videos rank above the originals and get more recommendations.

Try it on any summarizer or Youtube subs extractor. You are also welcome to visit the link on your phone and see how the subs display. I only tested the solution personnaly on android devices, but it should behave the same on iphones (fingers crossed).

It can be useful, although there are many people creating videos without transcripting other videos, they are just creating a low quality script with AI and putting ''relevant'' images or videos also generate with AI, it's what I see the most nowadays
 
That is a big problem. some creators see slop videos created from their own research efforts and outrank them on the search results for the same unique keywords/subjects. It doesn't take high quality editing, That's a lot of money out the creator pocket if he is losing views. Instead of one videos, image 10, 20, 100...
 
Add quick audio tags like “by @YourChannel” every few minutes. Viewers barely notice, but AI transcripts keep your label, proving ownership.
 
I literally have to watch videos over and over again to figure out what AI is doing, and they are confusing, suggesting, and confusing information.

The protagonist can easily ignore the tag, as well as the AI.

That's the point. The video is totally normal and the captions are looking normal too, hence you not seeing any issue. You"ll have to use a tool the slop channels use to extract captions or any AI tool to summarize the caption, you then will see that the result will be about "how wastewater analysis can provide insights into AI adoption trends among students in higher education". Almost the subject of the video, but with a crappy twist :D

I think everyone will be a YouTuber in near future, but the people knowing about how to promote and protect their channel, only they will succeed in a long term.

You're developing a clever and subtle way to block AI scrapers without affecting real viewers — many would consider that a fair response. As long as it doesn’t disrupt user experience or break platform policies, it's a reasonable tactic against lazy content farming.
 
That's flattering, thank you. But with all due respect, that sounds like an AI response. the culprit? The blinding "—" that I just saw while writing this post, but the whole tone sounded weird first hand.
 
That’s a slick move against AI leeches! :cool: Poisoning captions to screw bots while keeping subs clean? Genius! :D I say it’s fair game big companies don’t play nice either. :p
 
Quite unique, yes. Only when the slop content creators don't steal real creators content.
Don't get me wrong here folks. I don't mean to stop creative videos generated with AI. I want to stop slop channels stealing creators content doing no research but extracting a caption from a youtube channel and running it through an AI summariser.

Personnaly, if the voice is AI or the script sound like AI, I click on "Don't recommend channel". I'm working on that issue too, because the youtube recommandation algorithm is crappy.
 
This idea is quite creative and can be considered a way to protect creators efforts from the wave of automatic copying. If it does not affect the real viewer experience, it is not harmful. However, I think YouTube needs to have a stricter control mechanism instead of letting creators handle it themselves like this
 
I agree.
Youtube solutions = reactive : content ID system, copyright strikes, takedown requests, community guidelines strikes, appeal process...
My unique solution = pro-active: make their live harder.
Their solution = a lot of stress, mine = stress-free :)

How can you copy a video without transcribing it? I'm really serious to know.

Finally, someone that understand the issue.
These kind of operatins are running on thin margins and if you make their life harder by making them for expensive services to acheive the same results, they won't bother you anymore and just move to the next target.
 
Can soneone that has an iphone help? Can you see the captions displaying normally and at the same time the narrator speaks? No glitches or such?

Am I the only one getting the impreession that the forum is having a bot issue? I have been absent for the last 2 to 3 yeaars, but the vide is very different now.
