I've recently started dabbling in podcasting and need a better microphone

Currently, I use a smartphone microphone for my Galaxy Tab

It does a decent job but I need something that produces a SMOOTHER sound. Less noise.

    Anyone here have any suggestions?

For cheap, if you plan on just talking into a mic and having your laptop with you, start with a snowball:

These aren't on sale anymore but that's just to give you an idea of how low the price can be. I'd go with the Pro. To give you an idea of how it sounds, I recorded a 2 minute clip that came in top ten in a national podcasting competition, out of several thousand. PM me and I can send you samples.

If you want something more portable, I recommend the H4N (https://www.adorama.com/zoh4npro.html) as far as recorders go, with some kind of AKG mic. Grab two mics if you need to record multiple people in a room. This is an example mic: https://www.amazon.com/AKG-Perception-Professional-Studio-Microphone/dp/B00160PRBU/

If you're planning on doing on-location stuff, you'll need a shotgun mic. I don't have any experience with those.
