PO Boxes and SEO

I have a local IT business but I work from my home office. I have a PO box and I use that for everything related to my business. Today I was told that PO boxes were bad for SEO. What is everyone's thought on this? Is it going to really hurt me? My post office offers a "Street Addressing" services, see here:

would that be any better or do I need to get a virtual office?

I would just use virtual office for the cost its not a bad investment.

PO Boxes are bad if you want to appear in Google's local search (formerly Places now part of G+). Google needs to see an actual street address. You might be able to get around this by leaving off the PO Box part and putting your address as something like:

1 Main Street
Suite 100 [your PO Box number]

Test it to see if you actually get your mail, since Google will send a PIN via USPS to verify your local listing.

Yeah i was referring to local seo.
I already have got a pin using my PO box, I hope that doesn't hurt much when trying to use the post office's physical address.
