There's a certain process exired domains go through.
First is the expired status phase. This last 40 days and begins on that date you posted. During this phase the owner can re-register it for the regular price.
After this phase is the redemption period. It lasts 30 days and the owner can choose to re-register for an additional cost.
After this period is the deletion step. This lasts 5 days. After this it's free game.
If you REALLY want to ensure you get the domain, you can go to a domain snatching firm. I've used snapnames to get a domain I wanted. I think the price ws $60 and included registration for one year.
If you don't want to pay the extra amount, then you can just wait until the deletion period is over and hope that nobody else takes the domain.
