I posted yesterday about these useless conference calls. such a waste of time.

today we had another one for one hour. she is requesting a bunch things that 1) I dont know how to do 2) I dont want to do

the subject matter of the website is really exciting. it's about......ok, promise you won't get TOO excited..... it's about menopause. so fucking boring.
plus, in the amount of time it would take me to make this site, I could have SEOed a bunch of other sites and made 10x as much as she paid me.

I feel uncomfortable telling her "I dont want to do this"....because she might get mad, etc.

    what do I do?

    Please save me!

Whats the worst that could happen if you tell her you dont want to do the job? The point of doing this business is to be able to work for ourselves and do what we want right?

If you have such problems then quit doing business and get yourself hired at McD.

I feel your pain, I was in a similar situation a couple years back. First, you shouldn't be worried about the client's reaction because the fact is that some clients simply expect a mountain for the price of a molehill, it's just an unfortunate part of doing business. Some people are idiots and that's the way it is, but don't try to appeal to these people cause it will never be enough. Simply tell her that her requests are beyond the scope of the price you originally quoted her, then give her a price that's much higher. This way you don't look bad for turning her down because she'll be the one turning you down. Or, if for some reason she accepts the new price, then the job will become worth your time. Either way you win.

    Good advice.

Also, in the future, define your scope of work very clearly before beginning the job. So many pages, so many graphics, so many revisions, etc. That way you avoid most of the mess on the front end.

Increase prices a lot, she will go away. Worst case scenario you will be paid much more than you expected :)

n business, there are two rules
    1. the customer is always right
    2. if you are right and the customer is wrong, refer to rule number 1.

if you use harsh words with the customer, it will only give you a bad reputation.

the customer may publicize disadvantages of your service to others, especially to his/her close friends

Make the job worth your while. That's the most logical answer. You're saying you could spend time doing other things for more money, so just increase your price. If she agrees then you make more money, if not then you don't do the job. I assume you didn't sign a contract so the worst that can happen is she gets upset, but who cares? I mean it's never good to piss off a client, but if they can't pay for your time then you don't do the job.

That is pretty naive. Customers CAN be VERY wrong.
If and when they are, it is your job to educate them in a professional manner.

Can't you find out what the designer job is before accepting the money. I would suggest
that in the future, you do find out first hand. Then you could just say no right off.

If u don't want to just tell her no, then make up an excuse. Tell her your dog died or something.

Take emotion out of it. Do the job, get paid and move on. Then work out how you can change your procedure to avoid the problem next time.
