moz.com etc best practices are mostly bullshit, asking advice from SEO sellers is bad idea, the vast majority of them have no clue about SEO and are just reselling fiverr gigs for hundreds, as for their strategies these are simple, none of them actually offers results, cuz they can't. Thats why you see so many link packages but not one service that will actually provide you the results.
what you should do is to identify the authority site in your niche and see what they are doing, although if the authority site is a huge company like forbes etc, then don't follow what they are doing, as they simply don't have to play by the rules and writing pure crap or even lorem ipsum will get them traffic, but will penalise your website
