One thing to add here is that, sometimes you can create proton email without an email verification at the signup step, but new accounts need to be verified in order to receive emails.Use one of your Gmail accounts as the recovery email, man or just rent a number for that.
It’s really not that complicated… you just need to decide which option you want to go with.
Most of the time you don’t even need to go through email or SMS verification to register... only the puzzle captcha and that’s it.
They usually ask for email or SMS only when setting up 2FA or recovery options. Try using a different account or a proxy to create the account again and it might not even ask for that step

I don’t know how sensitive your use of Protonmail needs to be but imo, it doesn’t really matter if you use Gmail or any other email account even temp emails.I successfully registered through Tor by filling in the captcha verification, and this time it didn’t ask for email or mobile number verification.
Do I need to fill in the account recovery options, since I’ve already chosen two recovery methods:
What should I do? If I use a recovery email address like Gmail, I would be traceable because I’ve used my real IP with it?
- Recovery phrase
- Device-based recovery
