Hello to all:

I hope you guys are doing great today!

Anyway, me and a good friend are developing a site called http://holdempokerinsider.com (this is my first on Wordpress...)

Now, if it is not much of an asking, could you please comment or suggest to me anything that could help improve the site. Like logo design, widget arrangement, background/color usage, etc... The site is not yet completed in terms of pages and links.

You effort would be very much appreciated and I will someday return the favor. Thank you so much... - James

I think you should a darker theme?

I am using an eGamer them from elegant and might suit your site?

I have to agree that it's a bit "bright".
The lights were off in my room when I visited your site and I found it a little annoying to the eye. Perhaps if you change the black on the sides with gray or something closer to white that feeling might be lessened.

Note: After I spend few seconds watching the site the "brightness" isn't annoying anymore ;)
 
Thanks for your input. Anyway, I changed the background now and hoping you could have a look again.

Hey James.

I don't know where this guys have been living, but I think you deserve an honest opinion, because you asked for it, right?

So, the logo doesn't look professional. Looks like it's made by an amateur. You should improve that, mate.

I agree with the others regarding the brightness of the site. I would darken it a bit.

Another urgent modification would be the background. Try to take it out, or use another, along with the subject of the website.

Canvass color has been changed now (from white) and so as the background.

Anyone else?

I just checked your site again and I have to say that with this background there is a huge difference. It's still a little bright, but barely noticeble. Truthfully atm I'm probably noticing it simple because my eyes are tired. Had less then 6 hours to sleep last night ;)
Btw it would be nice if you can perhaps put in the background something related to poker. Table, cards, chips anything. You can perhaps find some colored picuture of let's say a poker table and remove the colors leaving it in while/gray(like an old movie feeling).

The sidebar is showing this error:

Fatal error: Cannot use object ******


I konw that the site is incomplete atm, but you could put some dummy content there for effect. (E.g.: YT box in the sidebar, Recent Tweets, some dummy Comments in the sidebar where you're showing Popular posts...


Good site, but something is bothering me... can't put a finger to what exactly atm. Will try to find it. :)

P.S.:

#1. The post-footer looks unprofessional and "bloggy". IMO, there is no need for those extra lines on the homepage.

#2. a
The ellipses [...] should be replaced by something more elegant. (an attractive pro-looking button or text -- whatever that makes the visitor feel the urge to press!).

#2. b
The hatched design for the sidebar background is irritating the eyes.

Try some contrast for the posts (excerpts) background and see if that helps make the post-excerpts look better.

#2. d
The date-time on top right is unneeded. It stays idle forever, and thus loses any importance.

I also don't see a Contact Form on the homepage when I click the link at the bottom. Don't put off having it there for too long.:)

Why do you need an "uncategorized" category and its link on a professional site?

META: Login link!!! (It's there in the footer.) Why someone else should try to log in your site? :) The whole "Meta" can be removed.

Recent Tweets! If it's empty, then don't display it! (Tweet something nice, and a lot, and that section can look great!)

Unless you have 100s of FB Likes, don't display the box! Get about a 1100 or more Likes "somehow" and then proudly display it!

The YT box is empty! Put some dummy video there, at least! Please see my comment about putting some dummy content. :)

I know this is my first post here but I have to be honest with you about your website. First, the logo. Your logo looks more like a banner than a logo. Second, I find your site look dull maybe because of the color. As the other member here, go with dark theme... make it feel like your in night spot in Vegas/casino, dark but full of entertainment.. I hope this helps rather than offended you. :)
