i wanted to ask if i can just take an article from my website and submit it to 20 diferent articles directories? that will be fine?

No, they will have a very low value because they are duplicate content

I would take that article, spun it, then submit it to the directories.

There is no penalty... but probably what you did is useless. Try to concentrate more on quality not on the quantity

ok thanks, today i got to page 1 position 4 ..so i dont think i will delete them but from next time will do it different as u suggested
the thing is that i am affraid that google will think that i copied the article from the article directorie to my site but was the oposite i took an article from my site and put it in the articles directorie

Depends on the article directories you submit it to. If they allow it, go for it.

They will carry some weight but they would much more powerful if they were unique. If it is a competive term then you need all the power you can get.

Useless in what sense??

Isn't he getting backlinks from 20 sites? (Maybe some with high PR?)

In my opinion I think Rob Whisonant said it right.
IF the article directory is willing to publish that duplicate content, why wouldn't you get the backlink from that directory?

BUT, let your content be indexed by Google first on your site, if the content is for a keyword you are targeting.
I would wait a few days and even send a few backlinks so G knows I'm the original source for that content.
