Please help with TOR

I am new here and hope this is a place to ask for some help. I am running a MAC OS X 10.6.3. I have downloaded vidalia bundle in order to get TOR to work on my computer. It says either another tor is running and refused by peers. Are there any settings or configuration I need to make? Thanks

I don't know about macs but am guessing something is stopping TOR from accessing port 8118.

run a port checker on your mac. See if the ports needed by tor are open or occupied by any other apps. Stop those apps or change the ports in vidalia. Problem solved.

Thanks That is enlightening. I am still learning how to do stuff so could you explan how I can run a port check on my MAC. Thanks again for help
