Please help - Mysql database taking loads of space.

Hi all,

First of all apologise if this isn't the right section.

I've around 20 wordpress websites which feed twitter taking pics from tumblr and posting them on twitter using SNAP - Social network Autoposter.

Lately I've been contacted by the support team to delete stuff as my websites were taking much of space. (space should be unlimited but it's another story - out of curiosity, is there any hosting company which doesn't bother you once you go over certain amount of space?)

So I went and deleted the pics in wpcontent-->upload, since they were already on twitter so I didnt care.

Afterwards I've noticed loads of space is taken by MySQL database and I was wondering if it's safe to empty the tables via MYphp admin page. (screenshot below).

Again I don't care deleting post and pictures as they're already on twitter.

I was also searching for a plugin that deletes post and pix after X days but I could only find AUTO PRUNE POST plgin which didnt work, are you ware of any other plugin?

This brings another interesting point. Hosting providers that offer unlimited isn't truly unlimited. Check into their TOS send see how they define unlimited. It's a marketing gimmick.

Yes, you can drop the tables from phpMyAdmin. This will empty your table.
Out of curiosity, how much disk space does your database occupy?

Around 3gb

That's a hell of a database. Anyway, you should not have any problem if you're hosted on a plan with unlimited disk space. As long as the disk space is used for the functionality of your website (in this case it's the database) there should be no problems.

They're mean, As soon as you get around 10 - 15gb they will say its against TOS and will suspend the account.
I had to delete all media files uploaded, before was around 50 gb LOL

I dont know of any host that really offers unlimited. All will be limited to some amount that is listed in TOS. The unlimited is just a marketing trick. I would recommend finding you a plan that will give you the amount of space you need.

Everything has limits. Read TOS and SLA carefully before signing up with a company.

You could write a cron job to empty all tables once a month/week/whatever
