Please help me with backlink basics, newbie to backlinks needs help =)

Hello guys,

Im new to backlinking, could somebody be so kind as to point me to some detailed information or even take the time to explain the basics to a newbie?


I read alot in the forum, here are some i stumbled across when trying to read up on backlinks.

Backlinks are a-tags leading to your website right?

What does Web 2.0 backlink mean?

I understand that Tier 3 are the worst kind of backlinks (what makes a terrible backlink?).
Tier 2 means better and Tier 3 best Backlinks right?

As i understand people make tier 3 backlinks point to Tier 2 Backlinks and those point to Tier 1 backlinks right? (why do people do this, isnt a tier 1 backlink enough?)


Any links to great starter sites / material are very welcome!

The html for a link is <a href="link"> as you have already mentioned.

Tier 1 should be high quality which includes unique, well written content. These usually come from web 2.0 which are sites like wordpress, tumblr etc. Tier 2 & 3 are generally lower quality which are used to index and pass on link juice to your tier 1.

Well explained. Yes Tier2 and 3 are the lower quality backlinks and you can get these links from wordpress blogs very easily.But Tier 1 backlinks are those links which comes from high quality with high pr blogs and websites. So tier1 backlinks consider always good for the backlinking purposes.
