Hi All,
While this is my first post, I've been following this forum for quite some time. I've found so much information here that I'm grateful for but at the same time wish I hadn't read. Whenever I think I'm getting close to understanding something, I feel I'm getting further way. Anyway, to the point, I'm trying to setup a successful link pyramid but I'm having a hell of time trying to determine if I'm doing it right and I would like input from some of the more experienced members here.
I have a website that's competing for 3-4 medium to high competition keywords but nothing that's impossible. In fact, prior to panda we had ranked within the top 5 for most of them. The domain is now 2 years old and the site has been online for a solid 2 years and it's not doing too bad. But we want to do better.
Here's my implementation of a link pyramid:
1. Money site
2. 5x Web 2.0 sites (4 blogs, 1 hubpage); created social bookmarks for these properties.
3. 10x Web 2.0 sites (all blogs); I've linked two of sites from this level to one site from level 2 until all sites have been linked. I've also created social bookmarks for these sites.
4. I plan to create articles and submit to article directories for each of the level 3 sites (I've only done this for one site so far). This will also include bookmarking of these articles. I've done some pinging but I'm not sure if I'm doing it right.
Somewhere along the way I heard it was important to create some youtube videos. We created a youtube channel for the money site and the video has been embedded into blog posts of some of the level 2 sites. I think this is what had an effect on the keyword that jumped to rank 48.
Level 3 and beyond is about the point where I'm starting to get really foggy on the whole idea. Can anyone clarify the following items for me?
1. Is my link pyramid flawed. Can anyone provide a solid pyramid structure that one can easily follow?
2. Most tutorials that I've read spend very little time on keywords. I'm very confused on how I should be linking between tiers. Which keywords should I be using to link level 3 to level 2? Currently, I've been using the targeted keywords on all levels depending on the content. I've tried varying the keywords at times to make look more natural.
With what I've done in the last 3-4 weeks, I've seen some results. One of the keywords that I'm targeting went from not being in the top 100 to being 48 after a few weeks while the others have remained pretty much the same. Yahoo and Bing have seen some improvements.
I'm creating much of this manually which has been a painstaking experience so I wanted to confirm that I'm doing things right prior to investing more of my time into this whole pyramid idea. I'm sure it's been discussed here to death but I have yet to find a clearly defined pyramid structure and keyword linking tutorial.
Thanks in advance.
