If your engagement only comes from friends, it's still valuable but the potential for virality will be limited. True virality happens when your content reaches beyond your circle of friends, attracting attention and engagement from people outside of your original network of friends.

Technically, any interaction that from an account that isn't on the same IP, device, that sort of thing, contributes to a post being viral. (glossing over a lot of the finer details yeah, but this is for the sake of visualising how interactions can influence your reach)
