(Please Help Me) Any computer expert here?

Hi,

I bought a new laptop few days ago from China(Alibaba), it came with old version of Windows 10(I guess before 2018), I updated it to latest version of Windows Pro(with my genuine license).

Now the problem is that Windows get hang/freeze randomly after some time(duration vary every time, sometimes after 5-10 minutes sometime after 20-30 minutes). So when this happens, I have to hard restart my laptop, because everything is freeze/hanged.

As I am non-techie guy, I am scratching my head, googling what could be the reason.

Any computer wizard who can help a fellow member?

I would check for driver updates. Be careful - incompatible drivers could render the system unbootable. You might be able to find them on the manufacturer's laptop website. Being that the laptop is from 'baba you might need to identify new drivers on your own. Try sending them a message to see if they have a website for you to download the drivers.

The Intel DSA can help with some of the common Intel drivers - check out this page:

Windows Device Manager will list all the hardware and currently installed drivers, versions, etc.
 
Honestly, in cases like this, I'd recommend a fresh install of Windows followed by a fresh install of drivers. With issues like this it's hard to discern whether they're software or hardware related, especially because it's a brand new purchase. You can use Google Drive or a physical storage device to move your personal files for now.

If the issue persists it would be safe to conclude that either:
-Windows is downloading bad drivers through its automated system, in which case you would need to give us hardware IDs (found in device manager, control panel)
-Hardware is faulty, in which case it's either RAM or the storage drive most likely, but could still be some other part.

what i would do is download the recovery windows 10 boot file from windows.com then put it on a usb and repair the computer i've had my computer pull weird shit like that and then this fixes it everytime. just need another computer most of the time but sounds like urs still turns on to do that. youtube all that
 
I've experienced the same thing with you.
Also with a new laptop. Try reinstalling your windows first, if the same problem still occurs, chances are there are bad sectors on your hard drive.
 
Did you use the machine for some time before you updated the OS? If yes and you didn't experience this before the update, it's not a hardware issue most probably. And it can be because of two things:
1. Incompatible/outdated drivers. What great with Windows 10 is that it's pretty good at finding and installing the drivers on its own, but if it missed something, you can try manually. Or there's a tool called Driver Booster, you can use that too. Faster and easier.
2. The OS update. In this case back up what's important, format the SSD and do a clean install of the OS. (You can perfectly legally download the Windows version you want from the Microsoft site and arm it with your key.)

There's also an Event Viewer on Windows, where you can check the logs. That may tell you the exact issue. Look for the error code(s) and search on Google or post it/them here.

Thanks for your help. I checked Event Viewer, where exactly I am able to see the error codes?
 
Reinstall windows.
If the problem persists then it is hardware related
 
I would try system restore if any, but not sure if system restore can restore previous version.

Try to monitor via task manager, is there any sign that causing this.

Try to enter safe mode, is the problem persist?

Or you can try downgrade to win 8 if possible.

If the problem still there, maybe it's the hardware.
 
Boot windows in safe mode and look if the problems continues. If it does. Reinstall the OS. If it doesn't, may be other third party software, or device drivers are responsible for that.
 
As other members suggested, I would first reinstall Windows, following the guide here:

Then after fresh Windows installation, if problem still exist then it's most likely problem in hardware - your SSD. So either request a replacement or a refund. If not the seller, Alibaba will help you out with this I'm sure as I order from Aliexpress (company of Alibaba) and they always help me out when there's an issue. The easiest solution is definitely to reinstall windows 10 as said above. Especially if you are not tech-savvy then a reinstall is easier than troubleshooting the problem.

If it freezes again during or after the reinstallation then you know its a hardware problem, that would require further investigation. If it does not freeze after reinstallation, then you have solved the problem.
 
Roll back your windows update.

I've had the same issue, with it being KB5001330 update causing the freezing. Also noticed significant FPS drops in games from this update. This update was rolled out a couple of weeks ago, so it very well could be this.

Just uninstall that specific update if you have it and continue to use your PC. Hopefully should fix it.
