Please help - how to fake a google referer?

Has anybody already done that? Is it possible?

I want to fake the referer and forward traffic to a sedo landing page.

What do you mean exactly? You want to make the traffic to the SEDO landing page appear as if it came from Google?

Yes. I have a cloaked page that currently forwards humans to clickbank and shows content to search engines.

Now I would like to forward to a sedo-parking-page and also fake the referer in a way that it looks like coming from google serps.

As sedo also allows type-in-traffic, a blanked referer would also serve, but I would like to mix to be on the safe side.
 
As far as I know, you'd have to do some serious voodoo to get Google to show up as the referrer. Someone can step in if I'm wrong here, but I don't believe it's possible.

I had the hope that it works but now I see, that we would all be rich, it would be so easy :)

A proxy can change/cleanes the referer, but unfortunately the delivered ip would not fit at all to google, damn.

Have to stay with the cleaned referers, thanks anyway.

Yep, the only way to spoof referer from the actual user is if you somehow have packet level power over their internet. (i.e. installed software/ran a program on their computer, but that's a whole different ballgame.)

You CAN force the referer to be a page you have control over, and have the page look innocent and normal when it's actually visited normally.
 
why is it not possible to script something like


if the referrer is not google, then redirect to a page, that searches google for your sitename. and open the page. Its probably do-able.


or double meta refresh it and blank referrer.

Question is then, where the traffic would come from. It is possible to fake the referer, but then the target would always see the same ip - the redirecting page. I think in general this is worse than blanking the referer :).

What I did not check so far is: what about transparent proxies? What I red so far sadly shows that this is also no possibility, it tells the target where the traffic comes from but if I understood right, you (the source site with the link) still have an indirect communication to the target.

Browsers are designed to not allow arbitrary things like that. You could redirect them so they search Google--but once they are at Google you have no control over where they go from there. You can not assert control over actions on a page that is not your own. (Which is one of the fundamental principles regarding how webbrowser's security are designed.)

Can't fake the referer to a page you do not directly have control over. (Via web browser.)

The target would only see the IP of the client themself. IP's of referering pages are never seen by the target.

A proxy WOULD cause the target to see all the same IP address. (As all traffic is routed though this proxy's machine.) This would give you control over the referer, except that all the traffic would be coming from you. It would be no different than you loading the page from your own computer a few hundred times and spoofing the referer--i.e. not very good.
 
It is possible to fake the referer from google serps... contact me if you want to know how i do it!
 
its possible but it begin to fall into the "hacking/spoofing" feild wich i dont realy think is welcome here

I'm a new member here - I just finished filling the sign up form!
The reason I signed up was because this forum has helped me a lot and when I saw this thread I felt obligated to show you my solution to this problem.

How to fake Google referrer + keyword on analytics:
1. Go to Google chrome and search for your website with the keyword you wish (use the adress bar to conduct the search);
2. Locate the search result on the page;
3. Right click the search result and select "copy URL/link";

(As you know if you use this link in a traffic exchange or any other place that leaves a referrer you'll end up on Google's redirect page!)

4. (Solution) Use refnull to cloak the link's referrer.

Proof:
I used HitLeap and this method together here are the results from Google Analytics:

I can assure you that there aren't 4000 people in this world looking for those keywords... What you see is a faked referrer with the above described method.

Note 1: refnull came to my knowledge thanks to this great forum.
Note 2: Since I can't post links I couldn't produce any examples.
