Please break down cost of creating private network

I am going to try to rank a very competitive keyword. the 2 top sites are pr5

How many high pr domains would I need in my network?

I will assume 50 domains are needed. Is my calculation right?

50*$30/domain = 1500 per year

for every 3 domains I will get one hosting account. a hosting account will probably cost $50/year
17*50 = 850

total of $2350? damn that's a lot of money. is 50 domains even enough for my purpose?

You're gonna need beyond 50 domains since you'll need to constantly be building links to it until the end of time.

If it's 2350 per year, that's about 196 bucks a month, and 6.5 bucks a day. All you have to do is rank a website that makes more than 6.5 a day to break even (very easy to do especially with 50 blogs at your command, assuming you do it properly), but now you have an arsenal that you can use to rank other sites as well.

I recommend you read up on how to properly set up blog network so they don't get discovered, and don't try to sell links on them in hopes of recuperating some of the costs (you'll risk losing it all). If you want even more power, focus on only 1 niche. Re-purpose all 50 blogs to be niche related and focus on promoting a ton of sites from the same niche (easier if you've ranked in a certain niche before and know that it's profitable).

It takes an initial investment to get a network going, but if done properly, it pays off big time in the long run.

You could probably get a domain for a cheap amount maybe $0.99 for godaddy. Then a ton of articles $30.. You're going to definitely have to spend more than you get but the return is definitely really high.

ok, you say I should focus on one niche, but I was planning to focus on one site only. I think it's a foot print if 50 blogs point to site 1 AND site 2. no? so isn't it better (although more expensive) to have one exclusive blog network for each money site?
so you think i can rank with 50 of these + a few forums posts and blog comments?

There shouldn't be any footprints if you set it up properly with different CMS's, unique C-Class IP's, different hosting accounts, unique articles etc. If you're targeting just 1 niche, than create your entire network focused on that one niche. Than once they gain some authority and more importantly, PR, you can than start getting niche targeted high PR home page links.

If you build it as a niche network to promote all your sites in that niche, you never want to use 100% of the network on each site (huge footprint). You want to use no more than roughly 60% of your blogs for each site (but your money sites should all be on different ips - this is common practice when you build 2 or more sites in the same niche anyways). So for site 1, you would choose randomly 50-70% of blogs to use, and for site 2, you would choose another random 50-70%. There will be some cross-over, but when it's niche specific, cross-overs happen. It's not unnatural for multiple sites in a specific niche to link to a few of the same websites. Authority websites get linked to naturally from niche bloggers, and this is what you want to emulate. You want to give google the impression that your main sites is an authority, and that the blog links are coming in from normal niche bloggers (who naturally link out to multiple sites they find valuable).

If you are setting up blog networks, you'll want to think long term. You could start out by setting up 50 blogs to promote site 1. Once that site ranks and makes you money, re-invest the money and buy more domains, say 30 more. Now for site 2, you can use the 30 new blogs + 20-30 of your first batch. And continue to build up your network this way. If you do it right, each blog in your network is an asset and it grows in value over time (only if you do it right). I'm sure you can see why it is one of the best strategies long term. Just takes a lot of initial investment.

You haven't factored your writers' fees! This alone will probably be higher than anything else

From my limited knowledge, I have seen people using private networks of just 10 websites, however it depends on how many websites would you use it for?

Well this seem useless question because if you are not earning $2K / years then why you are going for high comprehensive keyword? There are lots of small niche keywords from which you can earn up to $200 / day and even more maybe. You just need to use you common sense to find such keywords as nobody will spoon-feed you.

2 good websites/blogs is better than a 50, i said 2 in-case 1 of them get banned.
however the price u mentioned. it may come to a shock to u, but u can put price in the start, cause it all depends on many factories. like ur niche for example, ur competition, so it may cost less 2k on some niches and more than 5k in others

Too many factors to consider to be able to give you a straight answer. Also remember for the links to have any weight the network blogs should have a decent PR and buying a domain with PR is the best way to get PR quickly, so you should be thinking about $20 - $30 per domain

Having a post on each blog pointing to your site isn't enough - great big footprint and the blog won't be seen as useful, you need ot populate each blog with good content - at least 4 or 5 posts of around 400 words, so you are looking at about $20 for content per site also

But athough you do need to invest to get a private network going, the results are well worth it if you do it right
