anyways, most of these sites look for the cached version of the article. if the article is recently published, it can't be detected. googling with open/close quotes will do the trick.

Do not be fixed on the software - what you need is a real-time updated database that a standalone, let alone free software is very unlikely to achieve. Someone may of course write a script for that, using Google results via proxies, but for them to be fast they have to be private = not free.

I'd recommend using copyscape. The best way is to set up a text file where you will paste your article. Transfer the text file onto your host with an ftp.
You should be able to get access to the text file with www.yourdomain.com/text file
Just use that link in copyscape.
