Ok, so it's my own fault that I've waited until now to get into Pinterest, but I've been a heavy Twitter user and most of my attention has been through building traffic via that.

But I'm now wanting to get more rods in the pond and start using Pinterest.

My first question is, is Repinning on Pinterest, just like retweeting on Twitter?

On Twitter if you're new, the best method is to follow and then unfollow after X days if that person hasn't followed you back. So would this method work on Pinterest?

Twitter Automation:
Follow and unfollow after x days
Auto tweet updates to your followers
Use larger accounts to retweet the smaller accounts

So would a good Pinterest plan be:
Follow and unfollow people
Auto pin images
Get larger Pinterest accounts to repin me so more people see my images and then follow me

Good plan

I would be careful with auto pinning images, i got several accounts banned for pinning too much (low quality links)

How about simply uploading images then? Is there a difference between adding an image to one of your boards and pinning an image from a website?

You can like your niche related account photos and you can repin their pin but Not too much. There is a Limit

But if I'm understanding this right, it might be best if I just put some foundation down on my account (say 20 images) that relate to the subject of my account... and then concentrate more on following and unfollowing.

People who follow me will then hopefully repin my images and I can go from there?

If that's correct, then the question is, what's a safe daily follow/unfollow limit? And delay?

Don't spam.. They are very likely to ban you if you join like 100 boards in 2 days, or spam a lot of pins..
Beside that, i want you to be patient. The first 0->500 followers takes long time, after that you should get 30-100 followers a day, if you just follow a few, and repin a bit

Only 50 per day? That seems very low.

Best is to pin images from your website with the pin it plugin, easy to do and less risk of ban if you dont overdo it

So it looks to me like following/unfollowing is more important that the quantity of images you pin? And you just pin images now and again with the following/unfollowing being the main method in the early days.

Yeap. just grow your account/s and pin max 100 pins per day. Also after a while you will get more followers per day. My accounts is growing 500 + followers per day which is pretty noaice ;)

The problem with Pinterest followers is that most of them are bots. Every time I check any series of 10 followers, 5 or more are just fake accounts or other IMers who are just interested in YOU RETURNING THEIR FOLLOW.

I always thought that for traffic, the best way to get them is from active group boards. And the way to get invited in those boards is to ask the board owners and consistently pin good pins. It's a great way to pick up active followers, too.

So do any follow/unfollow method you see fit, but include joining group boards as part of the big picture.

If you have 10 accounts doing 50/day, you'll have 500 new followers that day. And that's another part of the big picture, money account + multiple support accounts. 1 account is too risky.

I'm guessing you use a bot for your growing?

There appears to be quite a few Pinterest bots but are there any clear leaders?

Pinterest is way more odd than your other networks. You can pin 100 top quality images from your own site and it can take up to 3 weeks before you start seeing repins and traffic. Once you start getting repins you will start to see traffic. If your pin starts to go viral, you can see 1000 - 2500 UV per day with sales.

Followers don't matter at all. You wont get any extra traffic with more followers so don't waste your time. I've had several accounts with less than 20 followers and several pins go viral. I gained maybe 2-3 followers from going viral and thats it. I did make sales though.

When you are pinning, wait a week for a new account before doing anything, then afterwards pin 100 pins within a 8 - 12 hour period. Increase this to 200 pins a day after 2 weeks and so on. Don't exceed 500 pins a day.

Create another board reserved for pinning other peoples pins with their info and websites. Looks more real.

You will see way better results if you pin images from your own site and hire a coder to automate everything. You don't need multiple accounts to make it on Pinterest. You need real people repinning your pins.

Hope these few tips help.

I'm a little confused though. Don't people generally only see images from people they are following, the way on Twitter you only see tweets on your timeline from people you are following?

So if I have 0 followers and I pin 100 images, how will people see them?

IMO your number of followers is as important as the number of pins that you pin each day
It seems logic that the more followers you have the more people you reach ( they follow you because they are interested in what you pin and want to see what you will pin next)
Otherwhise it would be pointless to grow your account

That's why I'm not sure of the earlier reply.

If I have 0 followers, how will people see what I've pinned? Surely only my followers will see and they then re-pin, the same way people on Twitter retweet and therefore the reach is increased.

Look up "pinterest smart feed". That will answer some of your questions.
