Is it safe to ping the url's of a brand new website? Sorry guys, maybe I'm blind but couldn't find another Newb forum to ask this.

yeah safe u can ping urls of ur brand new site according it will help ur site get indexed and make some decent backlinks too

pinging means letting multiple search engines crawlers' know that you have a new content on your site and they show check it out.

So if you have a new content defiantly ping it! It may help your new website's pages to get indexed faster.
