Pinging when backlinking

Hey guys, quick question

Do you people ping everytime you make a new "backlink" ?

For example if I were to post a blog comment on a pr6 blog should i ping it?

or, how do you guys do it?

I have never pinged a backlink, and my links tend to show up on yahoo sire explorer within 7 days. I do not think you need to ping backlinks personally.
