I never researched much on pinging with my Wordpress blog. I been using pingshot in feedburner to ping services. But Technorati DOES NOT update my articles. Last ping was over a month ago from when the blog first started out.

I installed a wordpress plugin called the Maxblogpress ping optimizer and turned off pingshot. Here is the sites I pinged with the new plugin (forced ping)

    Code:
    http://api.moreover.com/ping
    http://api.my.yahoo.com/rss/ping
    http://blogsearch.google.com/ping/RPC2
    http://ping.bitacoras.com
    http://ping.feedburner.com
    http://ping.syndic8.com/xmlrpc.php
    http://rpc.blogrolling.com/pinger/
    http://rpc.icerocket.com:10080/
    http://rpc.technorati.com/rpc/ping
    http://rpc.weblogs.com/RPC2
    http://topicexchange.com/RPC2
    http://www.blogdigger.com/RPC2
    http://www.blogoole.com/ping/
    http://www.popdex.com/addsite.php
    http://www.wasalive.com/ping/
    http://www.weblogues.com/RPC/
    http://blogping.unidatum.com/RPC2/

And here is the log results of the ping:

    Code:
http://api.moreover.com/ping could not be pinged. Error message: "parse error. not well formed"
http://api.my.yahoo.com/rss/ping could not be pinged. Error message: "transport error - HTTP status code was not 200"
http://blogsearch.google.com/ping/RPC2 was successfully pinged (extended format)
http://ping.bitacoras.com could not be pinged. Error message: "transport error - HTTP status code was not 200"
http://ping.feedburner.com was successfully pinged (extended format)
http://ping.syndic8.com/xmlrpc.php was successfully pinged (extended format)
    http://rpc.blogrolling.com/pinger/ was successfully pinged
http://rpc.icerocket.com:10080/ could not be pinged. Error message: "transport error - could not open socket: 110 Connection timed out"
http://rpc.technorati.com/rpc/ping was successfully pinged (extended format)
http://rpc.weblogs.com/RPC2 was successfully pinged (extended format)
http://topicexchange.com/RPC2 was successfully pinged (extended format)

Why won't these ping? And why doesn't my site show up in google blog search, icerocket and other services. and WHY won't technorati update?! I've even pinged them directly on the site many times.

Pinging Google always seems to get an OK response, however if I ping Yahoo from a shared server (godaddy hosting for instance) it usually returns an error, if I ping from a dedicated server it returns OK.

I assume that Yahoo returns an error if the IP you're pinging from pings too often, regardless of the url pinged.

No Idea about the others as I only bother with G and Y.

Only save the one that work. A lot of pinging services I used to use without paying attention stopped working a long time ago. You don't need to ping a lot. 6 or 7 services is just as good as 20-30 regarding results.
