default does a good job, i use pingfarm.com also it's free to use

Use default. Also, install WordPress Ping Optimizer and Pings For Pages.
I have WPO set up with the following:
set Ping at most [1] time(s) within [86400] minute(s)
WP pings when it shouldn't on future posts and every single edit of a published post. Ping too much and Pingomatic will give you the permanent finger.

Default Ping list is well and good.
Just update the new ping list if you not satisfy with the default one. You can update the ping list from Setting -> Writing and add the ping list and save them.

Default ping list is really enough and works good, which is useful to extend your blog reach to major search engines.
WordPress Ping update service works fine, Whenever you publish a new post or modify an old post, ping services notify search engine and blog directories to index it.
