I am surprised to see very little buzz on BHW about pi-hole, given that many users here are anonymity and privacy focused.
Pi-hole is a free solution for network-wide ad blocking. Utilize pi-hole as your network DNS provider and it automatically blocks the majority of ads and tracking. The best part is it covers *all* devices on your network - your phones, smart TV, smart fridge, smart bidet. You get the point.
You do not need to run pi-hole on a dedicated raspberry pi and can utilize any existing machine you are comfortable leaving on 24/7.
I find pihole blocks about 30% of the traffic on my network. Out of the box settings work great and it's simple to setup.
